Last night I scoured my local book store for a few hours. I’ll let you decide which section of the bookstore you’d find me in. *LoL/Smile* Guess what??? I met the cutest couple!! They were in their eighties. They were talking up a storm to one another while smiling with their eyes. I complimented them on how cute they were because it was on my heart to do so. Plus I FELT the ENERGY of their love. They thanked me and a 20-30 minute conversation followed. Of course my first question was...how long have you been married? You see, as I’ve said in past blogs, I’m a hopeless romantic. I’m a student of romantic love, relationships and communication. When I witness what I feel to be pure honest love, I admire and compliment it!
Okay, back to the cute eighty year old couple. They have been together for 14 years. This marriage is her 1st and his 3rd. He and his 1st wife lasted short of 3 years (they were teenagers when they married/ they conceived a child). He and his 2nd wife were married for 37 years (she passed away). As for his current wife, they knew of each other for years. They told me in agreement that they were destined to spend their later years together and that they are truly enjoying each breathing moment of their marriage.
Their words “we don’t have much money anymore. We live on a fixed income but we still enjoy life and one another dearly.” Here’s what they do to stay happy and enjoy one another:
They sleep during the day and party at night. Their “partying” is going out to dinner, bowling, playing pool, and going on long car rides to star gaze. They shared that they have a special place where they sometimes park just to hold hands.
They are avid readers and they buy books to read together. If they can’t find 2 copies of the same book, they won’t buy it. They like to debate their perspectives on the material read.
They love to go motorcycle riding together. They picked up motorcycling as a hobby about 8 years ago.
All of a sudden, the wife broke out her cell phone and shared family photos with me. They talked to me about art, history and religion. I left feeling enlightened by this little feisty duo! Their happy-go-lucky, positive, somewhat childlike spirits made me want to blog about our encounter.
True love is what I know this eighty year old couple experiences day in and day out. You know how I know? I FELT it and I witnessed the GLOW! You know the GLOW that I’m talking about. It’s magnetic, it’s real.
I claim and foresee running into them at that same bookstore or somewhere around town so that I can let them know that they inspired me!
